Pahanthudawa Art Festival
The whole country was shaken up in one day when a young couple uploaded an adult video in porn hub shot near Pahanthudawa Falls. Priests wrote letters of protest to the President. From the President, the Inspector General of Police, to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, everyone intervened to find those who acted in this porn video. A great operation was launched to capture this couple in 48 hours. And the couple was eventually arrested. At the same time, another couple wrongly introduced as this couple had their real pictures with visible faces go viral on social media. The couple who had nothing to do with the video was subjected to intense social and psychological stress due to cyber bullying and media pressure.
This adult video of Pahanthuda is a unique cultural milestone for Sri Lanka. It is the first porn video production in Sri Lanka to confront the prevailing Victorian law and culture. The incident raised a number of questions about what constitutes obscenity and the freedom of expression. It went down in history as the most watched video in the country. For the first time, a group of Buddhist deities complained to the chief incumbent about the monk’s request made to the president pointing it as an unnecessary interference in secular life. This became the most important issue in the country, despite the problems of Covid and price hikes, exposing the serious sexual crisis in our society. Another irrelevant couple faced a number of problems at the beginning of their life together. In the end, the question before us is whether the intervention of the law has benefited anyone or created unnecessary destruction and even distraction from the real problems.
There are a large number of people in the country who enjoyed this video as a publication. There were also a number of others who advocated that adult video production, which is free from abuse and coercion, should be allowed, and that it was freedom of adult expression.
Pahanthudawa Protest Festival is an exhibition of artists who responded to this incident with their creations, expressing their perspectives about this event. පහන්තුඩාවෙ මේ වැඩිහිටි වීඩියෝව ලංකාවෙ සුවිශේෂ සංස්කෘතික සංධිස්ථානයක් වෙනවා. ඒ තමයි තවමත් පවතින වික‍්‍ටෝරියානු නීතිය සහ සංස්කෘතිය සමග අභිමුඛ වුනු ලංකාවෙ පළමු පෝර්න් ගණයේ වීඩියෝ නිෂ්පාදනය. අසභ්‍ය යනු කුමක්ද යන ප්‍රශ්නයත් ප්‍රකාශනයේ නිදහසත් පිළිබඳ අභියෝග ගණනාවක් ඒ නිසා මතුවුනා. රටේ වැඩිම පිරිසක් නැරඹූ වීඩියෝවක් හැටියට ඒක ඉතිහාසගත වුනා. භික්ෂුවක් ගිහි ලෞකික ජීවිතයට සීමා පනවන මෙන් ඉල්ලීම නිසා පළමු වතාවට බෞද්ධ ගිහි සමූහයක් නායක හිමිවර‍ැන්ට පැමිණිලි කළා. කොවිඩ්, බඩුමිළ ආදී ප්‍රශ්න කරවටක් ගිලී තිබියදීත් රටේ වැදගත්ම ප්‍රශ්නය මෙය බවට පත්වීමෙන් අපේ සමාජය පෙළෙන බරපතල ලිංගික අර්බුදය නිරාවරණය වුනා. රටේ ඉහළම නීතිඥවරුන් පිරිසක් මේ යුවළ වෙනුවෙන් කාලානුරූපව වෙනස් නොවූ අසභ්‍ය නීතිය අභියෝග කරන්නට ඉදිරිපත් වුනා. මෙබඳු ප්‍රකාශන සංස්කෘතික කලාපයේ සිදුවන විවේචන සහ සංවාද ඇසුරෙන් තීරණය විය යුතු බවත් නීතියේ දරදඬු හස්තය මෙවන් කරුණුවලට අතපෙවීම සංස්කෘතික නිදහසට බලපාන කාරණයක් බවත් බොහෝ දෙනෙක් විශ්වාස කළා. එමෙන්ම මේ යුවළ ගල්ගසා මරා දැමිය යුතු යැයි විශ්වාස කරන රටේ බහුතරයක්ද හිටිය‍ා.
එතැන් පටන් පහන්තුඩාව ඇල්ල නැරඹීමට යුවළක් හැටියෙන් යාම තහනම් වුනා. මේ වීඩියෝව මහා අපරාධයක් කොට ගැනීමෙන් මෙහි රඟපෑ අයගේ පවුල් ජීවිත සහ සමාජ ජීවිත අර්බුදයට ගියා. තවත් කොහෙත්ම අදාල නැති යුවළක් ප්‍රශ්න රාශියකට මුහුණ දුන්නා. අවසානයේ නීතිය මැදිහත් වීමෙන් කිසිවෙකුට හෝ යහපතක් සිදුවුනාද නොඑසේ නම් අනවශ්‍ය විනාශයක් නිර්මාණය කළාද යන ප්‍රශ්නය අපි ඉදිරියේ පවතිනවා.
මේ වීඩියෝව ප්‍රකාශනයක් හැටියට රසවිඳපු විශාල පිරිසක් රටේ ඉන්නවා. ඒ වගේම අපයෝජනයක්, බලහත්කාරයක් සිදුනොවන වැඩිහිටි වීඩියෝ නිෂ්පාදනයට අවසර දිය යුතු යැයිද, එය ප්‍රකාශනයේ නිදහස යැයිද පිළිගත් තවත් බොහෝ පිරිසක් ඒ වෙනුවෙන් නැගී සිටියා. මේ සිදුවීම සමරමින් නිර්මාණ කළා.
